MBI is a 501[c][3] nonprofit corporation which exists to advance
the natural sciences, applied ecology and field biology. We
currently are executing cooperative agreements and applied
research grants with U.S. EPA and a variety of governmental and
non-governmental organizations in support of biological criteria
implementation and environmental indicators development at
state, regional and national levels.
Center for Applied Bioassessment and Biocriteria (CABB)
CABB is a center of expertise within MBI. It is one of three such
regional centers established nationwide via cooperative agreements
with U.S. EPA. CABB performs applied research for
biological assessment and biological criteria development and
aquatic implementation in support of multiple water quality and
natural resource management objectives. This research is focused
on improving the science and technology used to classify,
assess and diagnose problems in watersheds, and making the
results more widely available to a variety of potential users. We
are also dedicated to enhancing the capacity of state, local and
other organizations to conduct the quality and quantity of chemical,
physical and biological assessments that are needed to ensure
meaningful end outcomes in watershed management. This
includes TMDLs, non-point source abatement, stream restoration
and other outcomes. CABB and MBI perform much of this work
via cooperative agreements with federal, state, local, academic
and private organizations.
