Fish Assemblage Assessment
U.S. EPA – Region I of Rivers in Maine and New England
Development of a standardized fish assemblage assessment protocol for non-wadeable rivers in Maine and New England. Develop an index of biotic integrity and include the major stressors including hydrologic, habitat, and introduced species effects (2002-7).
U.S. EPA Tiered Aquatic Life Uses Initiative (TALU)
U.S. EPA - Office of Water
Provide technical assistance to U.S. EPA in the development of a framework for tiered aquatic life uses - activities include: participate in national and regional workshops, conduct an assessment of the Region V state biological assessment programs; coordinate the Region V state bioassessment working group, develop a standardized procedure for evaluating the adequacy of state biological assessment programs and use it to evaluate selected states; develop a web based presentation about the ecological importance of small, headwater streams (2002-present).
Biological Criteria and U.S. EPA – Office of Water, Habitat Assessment Training
Ohio EPA, River Institute
Conduct 2-day biocriteria and habitat assessment training designed for a wide audience of watershed, private, academic, and agency practitioners; train attendees in basics of bioassessment and habitat assessment using the QHEI; instruct in the Ohio Qualified Data Collectors level 2 and 3 training sponsored by Ohio EPA under the Ohio Credible Data Law; instruct in the Stream Ecosystem Restoration Training Series (SERTS) sponsored by the River Institute.
Stream Assessments, Indiana
The Nature Conservancy, Indiana Office
Biological monitoring to assess changes to the fish and macroinvertebrates influenced by best management practices affected by Indiana TNC, analysis of existing data to determine impacts of nonpoint sources and to demonstrate important stressor/response data relationships.
